Welcome to the Department of Mathematics of M. G. Science. The department is located on the ground floor of the M. G. Science Institute. There are 2 regular faculty in the department, as well as a several visiting and ad-hoc faculty members.
Study of Mathematics includes quantity, structure, space and change. Mathematicians seek out patterns, formulate new conjuncture and establish truth by rigorous deduction from appropriately chosen axioms and definitions. Mathematics is used as an essential tool in natural sciences, engineering, medicine and the social sciences.
The department offers a bachelor degree in Mathematics. The department of Mathematics was started in around 1950 with an undergraduate program. Studying mathematics develops skills such as arguing logically and rigorously, formulating and solving problems and analysing data.
Consequently, Mathematics Majors perform well in competitive exams like UPSC, GPSC, TAS, CAT, GMAT banking exams, etc. So students who want to pursue M.B.A, M.C.A, P.G.D.C.A. or to appear for banking and insurance sector exams prefer to take mathematics as a main subject. Students who want to pursue a career in computers or IT also opt for mathematics. Students who want to pursue a career in defence services also opt for mathematics.
In department we encourage students for various competitive exams as well as exams like IIT JAM, NBHM, TIFR, A. R. RAO, MINAXI LALIT SCIENCE AWARD etc. for develop there mathematical knowledge and pursue higher studies in mathematics.
