Understanding LinkedIn and Professional Networking

A workshop on “Understanding LinkedIn and Professional Networking” was successfully conducted as part of the Placement Club activities on 28 February 2026 at Theatre 5, M. G. Science Institute. The session was organized and presented entirely by students of placement club, i.e., Het, Paras, Srushti, Mansi, Parisha, Khushi, and Kiran, demonstrating their initiative and collaborative effort in guiding peers about building a professional digital presence. The workshop was conducted with the guidance of Dr. Jemi Gandhi, Faculty Co-ordinator – Placement Group, who helped the students structure the content and ensured a smooth flow of the session.

The event was graced by Dr. Jatin Parikh, Principal, whose presence motivated the students and added significance to the program. The session was also attended by Dr. Shivani Raval (Department of Biotechnology) and Dr. Rachana Gendiwala (Department of Data Science). There were 75 registrations for the event of which 54 attended the session.

During the workshop, the student presenters introduced participants to LinkedIn as the world’s largest professional networking platform. They explained the history and purpose of LinkedIn, including its founding by Reid Hoffman and its growth into a global professional network.

The session also included a step-by-step demonstration on creating a LinkedIn account, building a professional profile, and adding personal and academic details. Students explained the importance of profile optimization, networking, and professional visibility. A key segment of the workshop focused on LinkedIn connection levels—1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree connections and how these influence communication, networking reach, and opportunities.

Another important topic covered was community building on LinkedIn, where participants learned about tools such as LinkedIn Groups, Newsletters, and Live or Audio events to build professional communities and engage meaningfully with industry professionals. The presenters also discussed the “3-2-1 content rule”, encouraging users to share achievements, innovative ideas, and honest experiences to create authentic professional engagement.

The workshop concluded with a feedback form, allowing participants to share their learning experience and suggestions. Overall, the session proved highly informative and practical, helping students understand how to effectively use LinkedIn for career development, networking, and professional growth.
