Grading System

The Indirect and Absolute Grading System shall be used, i.e., the assessment of individual Courses in the concerned examinations will be based on marks. However, the marks shall later be converted into Grades by a defined mechanism wherein the overall performance of the learners can be reflected after considering the Credit Points for any given course. The overall evaluation shall be designated in terms of Grade. The 10-point standard scale mandated by UGC shall be used.
The performance of a student will be evaluated in terms of two indices, viz.

  1. Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) which is the Grade Point Average for a semester.
  2. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) which is the Grade Point Average for all the completed semesters at any point in time.

Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA)

The Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) is the ratio of the sum of the product of the number of credits with the grade point scored by a student in all the courses taken by a student and the sum of the number of credits of all the courses undergone by a student, i.e.,

SGPA (Si) = Σ (Ci × Gi) / Σ Ci

where Ci is the number of credits of the ith course and Gi is the grade point scored by the student in the ith course.

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)

The cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is also calculated in the same manner taking into account all the courses undergone by a student over all the semesters of a programme, i.e.,

CGPA = Σ (Ci × Si) / Σ Ci

where Si is the SGPA of the ith semester and Ci is the total number of credits in that ith semester.

The SGPA and CGPA shall be rounded off to 2 decimal points.
