Course Outcomes

  • Describe the history, classification and life cycle of honey bees and explain the social organization of bee colonies.
  • Demonstrate behavioural patterns like bee dance and swarming and describe artificial rearing techniques, including Newton and Langstroth hives.
  • Select suitable bee species (Apis cerana indica, Apis mellifera, etc.) for apiculture based on their characteristics and suitability for different regions. Identify beekeeping equipment, manage an apiary during honey flow and lean periods, and extract honey using indigenous and modern methods.
  • Analyze the impact of pollutants on honeybees and evaluate control measures for bee diseases and their enemies. Investigate development programs and organizations in India involved in promoting apiculture and document their impact.
  • Evaluate the economic importance of apiculture products (honey, beeswax, royal jelly, etc.) and their uses in industry.
  • Create a business plan for stationary and migratory beekeeping, incorporating recent advancements and economic considerations.
