Plant Tissue Culture Lab

Plant Tissue Culture Lab Facility

M.G. Science Institute, Ahmedabad

25-26

The Plant Tissue Culture (PTC) laboratory of our Botany Department is a well-equipped facility
that continues to support practical learning and skill development for students across various
biological disciplines. During the current academic year, the laboratory served as an important
training and practice center for students of Sem III M.Sc. Microbiology and Sem III B.S.
Biotechnology, enabling them to gain hands-on experience in essential plant tissue culture
techniques.

Students were introduced to the fundamental principles of plant tissue culture, including
concepts of aseptic handling, sterilization, and the importance of controlled environmental
conditions. They actively participated in media preparation, learning the roles of macro- and
micronutrients, growth regulators, and gelling agents in establishing successful cultures.
Practical sessions also included the initiation and maintenance of callus cultures derived from
various plant parts, helping students observe the processes of dedifferentiation and growth under
in-vitro conditions.

Additionally, learners were trained in synthetic seed (seed encapsulation) techniques,
providing insight into the conservation and propagation potential of plant tissues. Overall, the
facility played a significant role in strengthening students’ technical competencies and enhancing
their understanding of applied plant biotechnology.
