Report on CRUX – Debate Competition on AI and
Biotechnology

The Department of Biotechnology, M G Science Institute, organized CRUX, a debate
competition on the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Biotechnology” on 4 August 2025. The
event aimed to enhance students’ critical thinking, scientific awareness, and communication
skills by encouraging discussion on the growing integration of AI in biotechnology.

Undergraduate and postgraduate biotechnology students actively participated, presenting
arguments both in favor of and against the application of AI in areas such as drug discovery,
precision medicine, bioinformatics, and laboratory automation. Ethical concerns including data
privacy, bias, and responsible use of technology were also thoughtfully debated.

Participants were evaluated on content knowledge, clarity of expression, logical reasoning,
rebuttal skills, and overall presentation. The competition provided a stimulating academic
platform for students to develop interdisciplinary perspectives and articulate informed scientific
opinions.

CRUX successfully contributed to holistic student development by fostering analytical skills,
ethical sensitivity, and effective communication. The event aligns with NAAC objectives related
to student-centric learning, curricular enrichment, and promotion of innovation and
interdisciplinary engagement.
