A special program, under the aegis on an MOU with Bird conservation Society, Gujarat (BCSG) was organized by Biochemistry & Zoology Department at M.G. Science Institute on the topic of “Fascinating World of Birds and Bird Watching.”
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, principal, professors & staff members whose presence and curiosity greatly enriched the session.
The keynote speaker, Mr. Anuj Raina, Secretory, BCSG, captivated the audience with his deep knowledge and passion for ornithology. He began by explaining the concept of bird migration, detailing how birds travel vast distances and the scientific methods used to track their journeys. His insights into the technology and research behind migration studies were particularly enlightening for the audience.
Mr. Raina also highlighted several rare bird species that are currently on the verge of extinction. He emphasized the urgent need for conservation efforts and discussed the factors contributing to the decline of these species. His talk inspired students to become more aware about wildlife protection.
Proceeding further he added the career opportunities in this field of ornithology which were diverse. He also discussed about how the species of birds can be identified by recording their vocal sounds and use of websites specially made for this purpose. He talked about citizen science & its role in bird conservation.
In addition, the speaker shed light on the rich history of bird watching in India, with a special focus on Gujarat. He mentioned notable books and literature that have documented the diversity of birds in the region, encouraging students to explore these resources for further learning.
The talk ended with an interactive question-and-answer session, where students eagerly engaged with Mr. Raina, seeking clarification and sharing their own observations. The session proved to be both informative and inspiring, leaving the audience with a deeper appreciation for the world of birds and the importance of bird watching.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks extended by Dr. H. G. Patel, HOD, Zoology Department.
Overall, the event was a resounding success, fostering greater awareness and interest in ornithology among the students of M.G. Science Institute.

Mr Anuj Raina is a Naturalist, Birdwatcher and Wildlife photographer
He is working as the Secretary, BCSG, an NGO which is involved in Bird Watching & Bird Conservation since the last 25+ years.
